The essence of the Los + Ecoístas Mexico Awards is grounded in a clear conviction: sustainability is not built solely through large-scale initiatives—it is born from people, from their hands, their traditions, and the cultures that shape how we relate to our environment. As ecoístas, we care for what is ours. We want your story to become part of ours, and for you to take part in our actions.
The artisan competition, organized in collaboration with SEDETUR and the Quintana Roo Institute of Culture (ICA), aims to recognize the work of young artists from the region. This initiative has established itself as one of the most inspiring within the Somos Ecoístas movement, offering a real opportunity for local young artisans who wish to advance their careers while proudly showcasing their roots.
At Somos Ecoístas, the environmental movement powered by Piñero, we seek unique pieces that convey identity, reflect community, and showcase the cultural richness of Mexico’s diverse regions. Each proposal is an opportunity to demonstrate how local talent can generate a positive impact both socially and environmentally. In this post, we share everything you need to know about the artisan competition, now underway, which will select the young artist responsible for creating from scratch the trophies for this edition of the Los + Ecoístas Mexico Awards.
Who the Artisan Competition Is For
This competition is aimed at young artisans whose work is rooted in the creation of pieces shaped by a specific culture, place, and way of life. Artisans who create from the authenticity of their communities, preserving their land and their ways of being, doing, and feeling.
For this reason, the artisan competition is not merely an award—it is a way to recognize and give visibility to the unique work of these artists, providing them with the opportunity to showcase their talent.
Wendy Nallely Mex Dzib, last year’s winner, affirms that this award marked a turning point in her professional career. Her pieces reflect a strong cultural heritage, artistic sensitivity, and a deep commitment to her environment, as they are crafted naturally and are truly one-of-a-kind.
According to the artist, the recognition helped strengthen her visibility and opened up new commercial opportunities. Wendy also highlighted that these initiatives build bridges between artisans and businesses, fostering collaboration that can lead to a more sustainable and conscious future for tourism in Mexico.
As ecoístas, in creating this competition, we aimed to honor craftsmanship for the time and dedication it requires, the ancestral knowledge of artisans, and their connection to the land. We tirelessly seek stories of passion and commitment—human stories deeply connected to their environment—to provide them with the recognition and momentum they deserve.
Unique Pieces That Are More Than Just a Trophy
The emerging artist who wins the competition will be responsible for handcrafting the trophies awarded to the winners. In this way, the individuals and organizations receiving the award will not only gain a unique form of recognition, but also preserve a piece of history—an artwork that embodies the passage of time and the knowledge of skilled hands deeply connected to their craft. A true work of art in its fullest expression.
Open Call for Applications
As ecoístas, we are fully committed to our cause. The artisan competition highlights craftsmanship as a driver of sustainable development and the preservation of ancestral knowledge within cultures.
