The Somos Ecoístas movement, powered by Piñero, continues to gain momentum in its mission to raise awareness and recognize those implementing practices that protect the planet through the celebration of the second edition of the Los + Ecoístas Mexico Awards. On May 28, winners, collaborators, authorities, and Piñero representatives gathered to honour the tireless efforts of genuinely eco-conscious companies and individuals.
The second edition of the Los + Ecoístas Mexico Awards brought together companies, opinion leaders, and influential voices who are transforming sustainability into tangible action. Guided by the spirit of the Somos Ecoístas movement, the evening celebrated those demonstrating that a different way of doing things is not only possible, but essential.
Parque del Jaguar, located in Tulum, was chosen as the venue for this gala, bringing together people and purpose under a shared vision. As a symbol of the region’s rich local culture, the park opened its doors for this landmark event, which aligns closely with its mission of conserving and restoring the Mexican Caribbean. The gala was held in the Regional Museum of the Eastern Coast, reinforcing Piñero’s commitment to sustainability and local culture as key pillars of development that enrich the destination.

Voices Driving Change
During the ceremony, Encarna Piñero, Global CEO of Piñero, emphasized the importance of finding a balance between development and conservation:
“The development of territories only makes sense when it is capable of finding balance: between growth and protection, between progress and roots, between what we do today and what we want to preserve tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, Andrés Rosselló, Chief Sustainability Officer of Piñero, highlighted the cross-cutting nature of sustainability, stating:
“Sustainability is not an effort that runs parallel to the business; it is a principle that guides the way we operate, engage with local communities, and create positive impact.”
Their words underscore that being eco-conscious is not merely an option, but a way of understanding the present and shaping the future through purposeful action.
This year’s award, created by artist Justo Rosales, originated from an artisan competition organized in collaboration with the Quintana Roo Ministry of Tourism (SEDETUR) and the Quintana Roo Institute of Culture (ICA) to promote local talent. The trophy is a collection of unique pieces entitled Whale Shark, crafted from materials such as sand, wood, and sargassum. It symbolizes the connection between biodiversity, culture, and conscious reuse.
The ceremony was attended by Lilian Jesús Villanueva Chan, Director General of the Quintana Roo Institute for Culture and the Arts; Bernardo Cueto Riestra, Secretary of Tourism, representing Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa; and Andrés Aguilar Becerril, Deputy Secretary for Tourism Management.
Planting a Purpose to Cultivate the Future
On the eve of World Environment Day, celebrated annually on June 5, the gala concluded with a symbolic and meaningful activity. Through the environmental movement promoted by Piñero, attendees were invited to plant their most eco-conscious purpose in small pots.
Each guest wrote a personal commitment on seed paper and placed it in their pot, allowing it to grow and flourish over time—just as ideas blossom into meaningful actions.
This collective gesture symbolized the true spirit of the movement: every action, no matter how small, makes a difference.
The Movement Continues to Grow
The second edition of the Los + Ecoístas Mexico Awards was not an ending, but rather a new beginning. It served as a reminder that change is already underway and that an increasing number of people are choosing to be part of it.
The message conveyed by both the movement and the company is clear: when purpose is shared, it creates a ripple effect of positive impact. Because being eco-conscious is not simply an idea—it is a way of living, feeling, acting, and building a better future together.
