Start Caring for the Sea and Protect Sea Turtles

The sea needs to be cared for every day. Do you hear it? The preservation of the species that inhabit it is our responsibility. June 16 marks World Sea Turtle Day, but the truth is that the ocean does not require a specific date for us to begin taking care of it.

Its wellbeing, as well as that of its ecosystems, depends on our everyday actions. Sea turtles, which have been traveling the oceans for over 100 million years, now depend on something as simple as our daily decisions. Protecting them begins long before they reach the water.

From Somos ecoístas, the environmental movement powered by Grupo Piñero, we explain how caring for the sea every day helps preserve such beloved species as sea turtles. Our commitment and responsibility are rooted in environmental stewardship.

Keeping the beach clean

Caring for the sea begins at the shoreline. What we do on the sand matters, because the sea begins exactly where we step. Keeping beaches clean is not merely an aesthetic concern, but a direct way to protect vulnerable species such as sea turtles.

Every cigarette butt, every wrapper, every piece of waste we avoid leaving behind is one less obstacle in their path. Microplastics, as small as a grain of rice, end up in the water—and in the bodies of those who inhabit it.

The environment and marine wildlife

There are also actions that go unnoticed. An unfilled hole can become a trap for hatchlings or small crabs. A vehicle driven on the sand can destroy nests that are not visible to the naked eye.

Even our curiosity can pose a threat, as observing wildlife responsibly requires doing so from a distance.

The key to caring for the sea

The sea does not need occasional heroes. It needs consistency and for each person to understand their impact on the environment. There is no season for caring for the beach. What is needed is willpower. It must be kept in mind every day.

Take action. Be eco-minded.
