At Somos Eco\u00edstas<\/a>, the environmental movement<\/strong> powered by Pi\u00f1ero<\/a>, we are dedicated to caring for our surroundings and promoting the conservation of the natural treasures found in every corner of the country. Within our area of action, and with the upcoming Los + Eco\u00edstas Mexico Awards<\/a>, we place special emphasis on the Mexican Caribbean, which forms part of our identity. Mexico is a vast country where natural wealth seems inexhaustible. From jungles that breathe ancient natural history to seas that safeguard ecosystems rich in flora and fauna, and local communities that honor their roots, countless expressions of its magnitude can be found.<\/p>

Within this remarkable environmental heritage lies Quintana Roo, a region abundant in natural life. Its ecosystems represent both a source of national pride and an urgent challenge for Somos Eco\u00edstas.<\/strong><\/p>

The Impressive Mexican Cenote System<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

Quintana Roo is home to the largest system of underground rivers and cenotes on the planet. Extending over more than 300 kilometers, Sac Actun is an extensive network of underwater caves that resemble natural aquatic temples. Its name, meaning \u201cWhite Cave\u201d in Mayan, reflects a water system that exceeds all expectations for those who come to explore it.<\/p>

However, its fragility is extreme. Pollution from wastewater, uncontrolled urban development, and population pressure threaten its purity and balance. Protecting these ecosystems requires promoting responsible activities, improving water management, and strengthening scientific research to better understand their complex dynamics as a network of significant natural value.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The region is also home to the world-renowned Sian Ka\u2019an Biosphere Reserve. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this natural sanctuary spans over half a million hectares and encompasses tropical forests, wetlands, mangroves, and coastal areas with reefs, corals, and seagrass meadows.<\/p>

Jaguars, pumas, ocelots, manatees, spider monkeys, and hundreds of native species find their natural habitat in Sian Ka\u2019an. Likewise, communities descended from the Maya demonstrate that it is possible to live in harmony with nature.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
